Datu Harana & Ariara Island Palawan Expedition 6 Days

Six days away from mass tourism, deep into the islands, lagoons, and hidden coastlines of Northern Palawan. Guests spend three nights aboard Datu Harana, cruising far beyond Coron’s well-known circuit, before arriving at Ariara Private Island for two nights of secluded island living. With only seven rooms available across the journey, this is Palawan experienced at its most exclusive — far from the crowds, and closer to the parts of the Calamianes most travelers never reach. The expedition concludes with arrival at Dipnay, and onward to El Nido.

Description

There are two ways to see Northern Palawan. One is the well-worn circuit — the same lagoons, the same day-boats, the same handful of islands every itinerary visits in the same order. The other is a six-day journey combining four days aboard a purpose-built expedition vessel with two nights at a private island that welcomes only one group at a time, moving beyond traditional routes and crowded camps to anchor in places most travelers never reach.

The journey begins in the Busuanga island group, far past Coron's usual limits, where the wrecks of a sunken WWII Japanese fleet lie reclaimed by coral at Lusong Wreck and Coral Bay — among the finest snorkeling anywhere in the Calamianes. From there, Datu Harana threads north past Black Island's hidden cave and natural pool, the quiet shores of Debotunay, and a sunset at Pass Island, before the second day turns toward the region's most iconic waters: the emerald stillness of Kayangan Lake, the swim-through walls of Pukaway Cave, Blue Lagoon, and an afternoon at Smith Coral Bay. Two sunsets close the day — one at Pusod Lagoon, rented privately for the group alone, and a second at BBH Beach.

The third day is where the itinerary stops resembling anyone else's. Twin Lagoon's two pools of contrasting color, joined by a narrow limestone passage; a little-visited swim-through at Secret Cave; a stop in a local fisherman's village, untouched by the tourist trail; and Harana Secret Beach, a hidden stretch of sand between limestone cliffs reserved only for LXV and Harana guests. The day ends at Malcapuya Island, one of the most photographed beaches in the country, before the vessel turns south the following morning through Culion and the Linapacan island group — via the Ditaytayan sandbar, a visit to Canipo Village, and an afternoon at Araw Beach — arriving by boat at Ariara Private Island for the first of two nights ashore.

At Ariara, the pace changes entirely. Eleven beachfront villas across 125 private acres, a resident chef cooking with locally-sourced ingredients, an infinity pool overlooking turquoise water, and a full day with nothing on the agenda but the resort's own kayaks, paddleboards, and reef just offshore — with scuba diving, e-foiling, and guided excursions on hand for anyone who wants more. The expedition closes on the sixth morning with a final breakfast and lunch at Ariara, before a three-hour bangka crossing to Dipnay Pier and an air-conditioned van transfer on to El Nido.

Only seven rooms travel the whole journey — a maximum of 14 guests per departure — so what begins as an expedition and ends as a private island retreat never once feels like anything other than exactly that: entirely yours.
